Webinar: Move to Next-Gen DCIM – It’s Easier Than You Think

Inertia – noun, a tendency to do nothing, or to remain unchanged.

In the 12+ years we’ve been in the Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) business, we’ve run into a particular issue time and time again: inertia!

This is the tendency to stay with what you have, even if it isn’t working well.

Nowhere is this more prevalent than within the DCIM market.  We‘ve seen facility and IT management “making do” with:

  • Outdated DCIM solutions.
  • Freeware from hardware vendors.
  • Home-grown systems that consists of Visio drawings and spreadsheets.

If disasters haven’t happened yet, and nobody is concerned about the system, the tendency is to leave it alone.  This inertia-latent mentality continues to exist, even if the system’s limitations are becoming obvious or it is becoming progressively more cumbersome to work with.

We understand that change is difficult.  But in this industry, change is needed because many facility and IT managers don’t know how close they really are to failure.  Inertia also insulates these managers from experiencing new levels of efficiency their systems could produce — if they upgraded to the latest DCIM solution. They often assume that it will take many personnel hours to implement a new DCIM solution and are leery of taking IT and facilities’ valuable time away from existing projects.

The good news is that migrating to a modern DCIM system, such as Nlyte’s, is easier than you may think. With Nlyte’s experienced staff to help, using modules such as Bulk Data Manager (which makes it easy to remove information from ad hoc solutions, and load asset data quickly), the installation time of upgrading a DCIM solution bears significantly less employee workload than imagined. And the benefits gained will keep adding value as time goes on.
